Full Moon Drum Festival 2026: A Mid-Autumn Night for Families at Toom Sara Da Nang

Some Mid-Autumn seasons pass quickly, but the memory of one childhood moonlit night can stay with us for a very long time. A festival drum echoing from the end of the lane. A star-shaped lantern in your hand. A crowd of kids chasing a lion dance troupe. Parents laughing as they watch their children rush to open the feast.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, one of Vietnam's most beloved family holidays, was never about having lots to play with. It was about having lots of people to share the night with. This September, Toom Sara Da Nang brought families together to find a little of that feeling again at the "Full Moon Drum Festival 2026" a Mid-Autumn night told through lanterns, drums, games and moments when the whole family sat down side by side.

From the "Moon Pearl" Hunt to the First Bursts of Laughter

The children's fun began in the afternoon with a hunt for the "Moon Pearl" (Hạt Ngọc Trăng), a special adventure from Toom Sara's "Hao Huc Day" . Small feet ran around the Village, eyes searched hard for clues, and kids called out to one another. Some were so absorbed that they forgot their parents were standing right behind them. Watching them play, the grown-ups couldn't help laughing too.

Next came the Lion Head Painting Workshop, where children decorated lion heads by hand with color and imagination. Some turned out dazzling, some a little clumsy, but those imperfect brushstrokes made a Mid-Autumn keepsake that was entirely their own.

When the Moon Rises, the Drums Call Everyone to the Festival

As dusk settled and small lanterns were lit, Lady Moon and Uncle Cuoi appeared and led the children back to traditional Vietnamese folk games, the kind that seem to have been left behind in old memories.

Then the drums and gongs began. The children followed the village elder and the Village's drum-and-gong troupe in a fire procession. Footsteps followed one another in the fading light, and the flame was carried to the heart of the Village to light up Toom Sara's full moon. In that moment, Mid-Autumn was no longer just a program for children. It became a small ritual where everyone was present, waiting and welcoming the moon together.

And then, the lion drums rang out across Toom Sara by night. The rapid beats lit up the children's eyes. The grand lion troupe made its entrance, followed by the little lions the children had painted themselves that afternoon. Big lions called to little lions, and together they danced and ran across the Village courtyard. The lion heads were still a bit clumsy and the steps not quite in time, yet laughter rose all the same. The grown-ups laughed along, and no one stood outside the fun.

The Family Feast: a Moment When Everyone Sits Down Together

When the lion drums faded, the family gathered for the Mid-Autumn feast. Children chattered around the tray of treats while parents told stories of their own childhood festivals, sharing a slice of cake or a small gift. Among the mountains and forest, under lantern light and moonlight, this festival of family reunion seemed to slow down.

The Festival Has Ended, but the Moon Season Lingers

A Mid-Autumn night always passes. The lion heads are put away, and the drums fall quiet in the hills. But years from now, a child may still remember: "I once celebrated Mid-Autumn at Toom Sara."

They may remember the Moon Pearl hunt, the lion head they painted themselves, Lady Moon and Uncle Cuoi, the lion drums in the night, and an evening when Mom and Dad stayed by their side from start to finish. That may be the most beautiful gift a Mid-Autumn season can leave behind.

Toom Sara thanks every family who helped create the "Full Moon Drum Festival 2026," and thanks the children's laughter, their eager eyes, and the grown-ups who returned, just for one night, to their own childhoods.

Toom Sara By Night

Mid-Autumn will come again. And Toom Sara hopes to remain a place where, every full moon season, families find a reason to sit a little closer together.
